Area Code 430 History and Coverage
Area code 430 was introduced in 2003 as an overlay of the existing 903 numbering plan area of northeast Texas. Area 903 was formed in 1990 by geographic split from 214, which had previously been responsible for a considerably larger area in north and east Texas. Overlaying area 430 maintained the existing boundary of area 903 while giving extra numbering resources without making any further geographic split.
The shared region has a large northeast Texas arc. On the north side, it stretches close to the Red River, on the east it borders the borders of Arkansas and Louisiana at Texarkana. On the west, the territory goes up towards the Sherman-Denison area, and on the south, there are settlements in the Marshall area and the Piney Woods area. These define the region from the Dallas-Fort Worth region, which is covered by 214 and other area codes.
Railway lines and highways have always linked county seats, agricultural towns, timber country, and trading areas along the borders in northeast Texas. The 430 and 903 region has territory close to the Red River and the interstates near Texarkana.
