Area Code 900 History and Coverage
Area code 900 entered the North American Numbering Plan in 1971 as a specialized service code. Its numbering resources are assigned to premium-service providers, which may then use individual numbers for their own offerings. This structure gives the code a service-based footprint rather than a regional one, making place-based reverse lookup results limited in value.
The North American Numbering Plan Administrator allocates 900-NXX numbering resources in accordance with industry guidelines established by the Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions’ Industry Numbering Committee. Every 900-NXX numbering pool contains 10,000 telephone numbers.
