Area Code 341 History and Coverage
Area code 341 is one of the newer numbering plans in use today since it started as an overlay to the 510 numbering plan in 2019. The history of the code is rooted in previous developments in the telephone map of the East Bay region. Area code 510 was first implemented in 1991 as a geographic split from the then existing 415 code in order to separate the East Bay from the San Francisco area. Further splits in 1998 saw the introduction of area code 925, which split off the interior areas of what was then the 510 numbering plan territory from the original 510 territory.
This left 510 covering only areas facing the bay, where there was still development for additional numbers as demand increased. By the time 341 was introduced, the region covered by the code had developed into urbanized areas as well as areas that had seen redevelopment of areas that were originally industrial. Unlike most other overlays that replace an existing number plan, area code 341 shares its coverage with 510. The northern limit reaches into western Contra Costa County and the Richmond shoreline, while the southern area connects to the inner East Bay. The coverage is located in the Pacific Time Zone and follows the East Bay shoreline of San Francisco Bay.
