Area Code 945 History and Coverage

Area code 945 was introduced on January 15, 2021, after the Public Utility Commission of Texas granted permission for expansion of telephone number supply in the Dallas-area. The new area code was implemented through overlay of the existing 214, 469, and 972 area code region without modifying any of the geographical boundaries of the area.

The decision reflected continued demand for telephone numbers in North Texas as residential growth, business expansion, mobile phones, and other connected devices increased the need for new number assignments. Texas had received its first four area codes in 1947, and the state’s numbering plan has grown over time as individual regions approached their available number limits.
